Naked Alpha... and other missing suitcases

State Of The Art (Quantum Deluxe, 1994)
Barmageddon (Quantum Deluxe, 2002)
Way, way back in the day - 1992 to be exact - Brubaker was one half of a two-man band called Kryogeniks, which then turned it Quantum Deluxe in 1993. They produced a whole album entitled "State Of The Art" with Bart-I-Cus from Ice Minus. At that time they were limited to an Atari ST, a dodgy copy of Cubase and an even dodgier microphone. Despite this, they managed to come up with a few gems, most of which were performed live on a near ten year local onslaught. While vocals were recorded for the album by Mark Caro (Tech Itch) and Darren Decoder (Kosheen) on a separate digital audio tape, the twain never met - and what was left was a collection of instrumental tracks. The disc still lurks somewhere in a dusky room somewhere, along with the artwork that was lovingly created by Michael Moustafi - but it unfortunately never found the light of day.
Quantum Deluxe's second 'debut' album "Barmageddon" was a labour of love. Fraught with disputes, disagreements and 'artistic differences', the LP was completed sometime in 2002 after some three years work. Originally intended to include over 30 tracks, it was eventually whittled down to 22 - but this meant that a lot of the skits and audioscapes that Brubaker had written for the album were dropped. The album seemed almost cursed at times - the artwork was never actually completed, the mastering had to be sent to Ice Minus and took the release date way over schedule - and the firm responsible for reproduction made a dog's dinner of the work, rendering it unusable. Copies still exist, but whether it ever reaches the light of day again remains to be seen.
D6AD EP (Quantum Deluxe, 1999)
Naked Alpha EP & Blue Sunshine LP (2006)
Intended to be the maiden release on Manic Compression, the "D6AD EP" was a real testament to teamwork. It featured four tracks by Quantum Deluxe, DJ Madds and Matt Backup. Initial feedback was extremely positive, and a local promoter decided to front the money to have the track cut to vinyl. After several months of delays and countless live performances, the finances simply did not arrive, and the EP was shelved. Again it featured artwork by Michael Moustafi and some 100 copies on compact disc were produced in-house, used to promote Manic Compression and Quantum Deluxe on the local circuit. Copies are still around and the EP may see the light of day again here at the site.
After the limited success of the "All The Colours Of The Dark EP" released in 2005, Brubaker set about writing a new EP to release before the intended debut LP, "Blue Sunshine" was set to drop in late 2006. What happened next was the result of too many beers, too much cocaine and not enough sleep. Brubaker slowly headed towards mental breakdown, which happened in 2007. An addiction to Diazepam and Alcohol, homelessness and desperation forced him into rehabilitation in 2008, where he made a near-full recovery after 11 months of therapy and rest. An intro is the only part of the project that was actually ever produced, along with some strange loops and bleeps.
